The Christmas Tag - 2016

Want to know more about me? You're in luck. I was tagged in "The Christmas Tag" where bloggers answer questions about their Christmas experience. Sylvia at ParentingDiabetes tagged me. Don't forget to check out her site for recipes and tips for living with diabetes.

What’s your favorite Christmas Movie?
Maybe "A Charlie Brown Christmas," because that's what my family watched a lot growing up. Also, these aren't movies, but I really like watching "Doctor Who" Christmas specials. One year, they made one like "A Christmas Carol." I wonder what they'll do today.

Have you ever had a white Christmas?
Honestly, I'm not sure. I don't think I've had one recently. Today it's too warm for snow and last year we only had one snowfall.

Where do you usually spend your holiday?
With family. The exact location varies, but I'm usually with family.

What is your favourite Christmas song?
I love when "There's No Place Like Home for the Holidays" comes on the radio.

Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
It depends. If I'm with family or friends on Christmas Eve but they won't see me Christmas Day, I open their presents while I'm with them. Part of the joy of the season is watching someone open your gift.

Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
Nope...Well, maybe, I'm trying to sing the song to myself....There's Dasher and Dancer and Donner and Vixon and Pracer and Comet and Cupid and do you recall the most famous reindeer of all? Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer...That's 8; he has 9....Oh, Blitzen!

Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
Fake. I'd say that's more environmentally friendly. Yes, it's made of plastic and metal, which aren't going to biodegrade well if/when it goes to a landfill, but I've been using the same tree as long as I can remember rather than cutting down a new tree each year...But enough of my eco-rant.

What is your all time favourite holiday treat/food/sweet?
Chocolate-covered things. My mom always made chocolate covered pretzels. This year, I made chocolate-covered vegan cake balls. They're really easy. Bake a vegan cake, crumble it up, stir in vegan icing, form balls, drop in melted chocolate, set on wax paper to eat, and enjoy!

Be honest, do you like giving or receiving gifts better?
Oh...That's tough, but I think I prefer to give than receive. I like watching someone's reaction as they open my present. I like making someone's day if they didn't expect a gift from me. I give gifts to people who aren't giving me gifts and I like that because it still makes me feel good, even if I'm not getting someone tangible in return.

What is the best Christmas present you’ve ever received?
Hmm...Well, cash is always good. I think as a kid getting a giant panda teddy bear was pretty cool. And being with family is a really nice gift, especially when my relatives live all over the country and can't get together every year.

What would be your dream place to visit during the holiday season?
I don't think it would be an exotic locale. I think my dream holiday location would just be anywhere my family could be together.

Are you a Pro present wrapper or do you fail miserably?
Somewhere in between. I grew up re-using wrapping paper and still do it, which can make the presents look shoddy. But I try to fold the edges in and put bows on to make them look nicer.

And sometimes you get nice boxes like the one on the right which make it easy to re-use present wrappings while keeping them nice looking.

Most memorable Christmas moment?
Ha ha...The year my Uncle brought farting slime. He kept "farting" during our holiday meal. I was still a little kid and kept looking under the table at him. I was pretty sure he had something in his hands that was making the noise. And I was right! He'd brought 3 cups of farting slime--one for each of my brothers and I. I kept it for a long time, but it dried out and stopped working eventually.

What made you realize the truth about Santa?
My two older brothers. One Christmas they decided to prove to me he wasn't real by having the three of us sleep in front of the fireplace on Christmas Eve. Suffice to say, Santa didn't come down the chimney and leave gifts on the fireplace.

What makes the holidays special for you?
Spending time with loved ones...even if we can drive each other crazy...Like I said before, my relatives live all over the country and this time of year is really the only chance we usually get to see each other. But, this year, I won't get to see anyone on my mom's side of the family because I don't have time off work!  😩 That's what happens when you work in foodservice and healthcare. Some things just can't shut down for the holidays.

Because it's Christmas already, I'm not sure if I should tag someone else. They probably won't get to answer the questions in time. But thanks, again, to Sylvia from ParentingDiabetes to tagging me.

Happy holidays to all!
